The angled-space bookshelf, built

A bookshelf made for an angled space in our house, with its original Fusion drawing preserved alongside the built-project story.

The need

A bookshelf had to accommodate an angled boundary.

The response

Model the profile and material thickness, then communicate it in several dimensioned views.

A built bookshelf, with its original design sheet retained.

Fit the space, not a standard rectangle

The defining feature is the long sloped edge. Rather than use a standard rectangular profile and leave the surrounding geometry unresolved, this bookshelf was modeled around the available boundary. The original sheet records that outline in front, side, and isometric views.

The drawing includes a 3/4-inch plywood material note. Showing the outline, thickness, and return edges together makes it possible to read the same object both as a three-dimensional piece and as geometry that has to be fabricated.

A model with a physical counterpart

The bookshelf now exists in our house. The Fusion drawing preserves the fitted profile behind the finished object, including the angle, material thickness, and return edges.

This is the connection between digital design and physical work that interests me: using the model to resolve an awkward boundary, rather than making the room accommodate a standard piece.

Built status confirmed by Michael in September 2026. The drawing issue date is not an installation date. A photograph of the installed bookshelf has not yet been matched; the separate 2026 built-in shelving project is not substituted for it.
