Qidi spring belt tensioner

A screw-adjustable housing that reuses the Qidi Plus4 tensioner spring, turning a fixed stock arrangement into something a maker can adjust.

The need

Retain the stock spring while giving the user a way to adjust tension.

The response

Publish a printable housing/pusher modification and specific build guidance.

The result

A shared modification, with user makes, measurements, and a documented clearance issue.

Keep the spring. Add control.

The aim was to retain the stock spring while adding screw adjustment to its tension. The published design credits stew675 and spooknik for the concept and request; my work was turning that idea into printable parts and sharing the implementation.

This is a modification to an existing machine, not a new printer. The useful change is concentrated in one interface: how the spring load can be adjusted.

An assembly with specific requirements

The release includes separate housing and pusher geometry, with printing and hardware guidance. I printed the parts in ASA, specified an upright orientation and 0.2 mm layers, and asked other makers to treat the release as a testable work in progress.

The documentation asks for measured feedback rather than a feeling that the machine seems better. Matching belt tension is the practical concern, so the project includes guidance as well as the files.

Designing for other people to reproduce

Once a modification leaves the original machine, its fit has to be understood by someone working with their own printer. The housing, pusher, fasteners, and available adjustment are therefore part of the same communication problem. A useful file is only one part of a useful release.

What people reported back

People who tried the files shared their own results in the linked discussion. Those comments are useful feedback, although they are not a controlled test of every Qidi Plus4.

The visual on this page

The image shows the housing and pusher geometry from the original 3MF files, arranged separately for inspection. It is a source-model view, not a photograph of an assembled tensioner. The Printables listing remains linked for the original photographs and installation material.

Adding an adjustment that was missing

I kept the stock Qidi Plus4 tensioner spring and designed a printed housing and pusher that added screw adjustment. The goal was to make belt tension something the user could set instead of accepting a fixed arrangement. I published the parts with printing and hardware guidance and asked people to compare measured tension. Feedback in the linked discussion came from individual users, so I treat it as useful experience rather than a controlled test of every printer.

Credits & project notes

Concept/request: stew675 and spooknik. Implementation, files, and original instructions: Michael Pytlowany / Jerky_FPV. User makes and feedback remain credited to their authors. Source geometry shown separately, without claiming an assembled fit.

Individual outcomes are uncontrolled user reports, not a guarantee of improvement. A separately authored FreeCAD reconstruction concerns an earlier tensioner and was described as untested; it is not validation of this later spring assembly.
