Michigan, carved in cherry
A topographic carving, some detail work, and a coat of oil to bring out the cherry.

A familiar outline, a new surface
This Michigan topography piece was an early CNC carving project. The shape of the state becomes a small relief rather than a flat silhouette.
Off the machine
After the carve, I touched up details with a rotary tool and applied an oil finish.
