A customer build around a different kind of component

This project combined a large filter with a purpose-built plywood housing. I described it in the October 2021 post as a 1200 CFM HEPA laminar-flow hood and my favorite project to date.

The housing is part of the equipment

The photographs show the wooden enclosure and the assembled unit. The material and finish matter, but the object is more than decorative cabinetry: it is a custom housing built around functional equipment.

The enclosure has to accommodate the filter as an actual component, not just as an opening in a cabinet. The design task combines the housing geometry, assembly, and access to the equipment it contains.

The earlier SketchUp configuration provides another view of that work. It lets the visitor see a digital enclosure alongside the built wooden assembly, while recognizing that the two records do not necessarily show an identical revision.

Familiar making, different application

The same shop skills used for furniture and fixtures appear here in an equipment build. The archive gives it a complete identity of its own, without needing to claim expertise in the customer's eventual application.

The enclosure before the photograph

The existing design archive also contains laminar and laminar2 SketchUp models and STL exports. The view below comes from laminar2.stl, dated August 2021. It records an earlier enclosure configuration, not an assertion that every feature matches the October build.
