The need

House a large filter assembly in a customer-specific piece of equipment.

The response

Develop an enclosure configuration, then fabricate and assemble the plywood housing.

The result

A photographed custom flow hood; the 1200 CFM designation remains the original project description.

A customer build around a different kind of component

This project combined a large filter with a purpose-built plywood housing. I described it in the October 2021 post as a 1200 CFM HEPA laminar-flow hood and my favorite project to date.

The enclosure around the filter

The filter needed a fitted enclosure, so the plywood housing was part of the working equipment. I also included an earlier SketchUp view to show how I was laying out the enclosure before the photographed build.

Woodworking for an equipment build

The fabrication was familiar shop work: cut the plywood, assemble the housing, fit the filter, and finish the wood. The customer handled how the finished flow hood was used.

The earlier enclosure model

The source folder contains laminar and laminar2 SketchUp models and STL exports. The rotatable view below comes from laminar2.stl, dated August 2021, and shows an earlier configuration than the October build photo.

Building around the filter

I fabricated the plywood enclosure around a large HEPA filter and assembled the flow-hood housing for the customer. The work used familiar shop skills, but the finished object was equipment rather than furniture. I had to build around the filter dimensions and keep the enclosure practical to assemble. The earlier SketchUp and STL views show a previous configuration, while the October photograph shows the built wooden housing. The customer handled the final application.
